The Ordinary Rosehip Oil

What we think

yeah

Category: Tags: , , , ,

The Ordinary uses cold pressing to extract this rosehip oil, which is a positive step because this method of extraction retains the goodness of the seed oil.

The Ordinary also mentions that it uses organic plants, which is also positive.

The efficacy of plant oil depends, to a large extent, on where and how the plant was grown and its extraction methods. Everything seems okay for this oil on this front.

Rosehip oil forms a thin layer on the skin and prevents the loss of hydration through evaporation. It does not add hydration but helps retain it. So, if you are experiencing dehydrated skin, using this oil to add hydration will not improve your skin’s condition. In such cases, add a hydrating product, and then you can top it off with this oil.

Rosehip oil contains various ingredients with antioxidant properties. Antioxidants neutralise nasty molecules found on the skin called free radicals. Free radicals are formed almost daily on our skin. They harm the good cells and thus age our skin.

Any ingredient with good antioxidant properties can also reduce the chances of pigmentation on the skin. This includes the rosehip oil used in this product.

Rosehip oil contains a small amount of all-trans-retinoic acid, which helps produce new cells. More new cells in the skin mean old cells are forced to fall off and be replaced by new cells, which results in a brightening effect on the skin. This also removes the pigmentation that some of these old cells carry inside them. All-trans-retinoic acid also boosts the production of collagen, a protein in the skin. More collagen means reduced fine lines.

It has a very non-greasy feel and so can also be used as a primer below your makeup.

This product contains 100% rosehip oil. So, if you are looking for a rosehip oil product, consider this one. I mention this because some rosehip oils contain other ingredients.

Rosehip oil doesn’t specialise in any of its benefits, meaning it is not categorised as a pigment-fighting ingredient, an acne-fighting ingredient, or an anti-aging ingredient. If you are after a product that specialises in these benefits, then this is not the product for you. If you are after a moisturising facial oil with some added benefits, then this can help. Also, remember that this cannot replace your regular moisturiser.

This is a good facial oil to use, as long as you are aware that it offers multiple benefits in small quantities but does not specialise in any – and that’s okay 🙂

It is safer to use facial oils at nighttime. There is a possibility that facial oils can dilute your sunscreen. Sunscreen is a must in the daytime. So, safer to use oils in the nighttime.

Cleanse your face. If you are planning on using serums, apply them and use rosehip oil as your final step. You can also apply skincare products that have a texture heavier than rosehip oil on top of rosehip oil.

Ingredient 1 – Rosehip Oil
Function: Emollient, Antioxidant
It is extracted from the seeds of a plant called rose canina.
It adds a thin layer on top of the skin and thus reduces the evaporation of water from skin’s surface. This keeps the skin hydrated.
It feels light and doesnot have the heavy feel that some oils can have.
It also helps in neutralising nasty free radicals found on the skin. These nasty molecules age the skin. By helping neutralise them, it contributes towards the well-ageing of skin.
It also increases the production of new cells. New cells replace the old cells and this results in a brightening effect on the skin.
