Hyphen Moisturizing Cream Cleanser Face Wash Review
Review
Hyphen’s Moisturizing Cream cleanser face wash with ceramides & polyglutamic acid for dry skin is a good cleanser.
This product is a gentle yet effective cleanser. It can get rid of oil and dirt from the face. It produces foam because of the properties of some of the cleaning agents used in the product.
Cleansers are often mistaken for not being an essential factor in a skin care routine. But the fact is, if a wrong cleanser is used, it can cause a lot of harm to the skin. It can irritate and damage the skin’s barrier function. A damaged skin barrier leads to dehydrated skin and lots of breakouts.
And it is easy to use the wrong cleanser. Some cleansing agents can be very harsh on the skin. There are many on the market that use these harsh ingredients.
So, it is essential to understand how vital a cleanser is and how easily we can buy the wrong one.
This cleanser from Hyphen is a good one.
It is specifically marketed for dry skin because this cleanser will not dry up your skin. Cleansing agents can dry up the skin at least slightly, regardless of their mildness. This cleanser has good hydrating ingredients that can compensate for any dryness the cleansing agents can cause.
Though it is marketed for dry skin, all other skin types can use it, too. Oily skin might not benefit from daily use of this cleanser as it can be too gentle for them. Oily skin types can use this cleanser a couple of times a week.
Having at least two cleansers on your shelf is always a good idea if you can afford it. This way, you do not use the same type every day.
A couple of things to remember:
This product is not a moisturising cream, though it has those words in its name.
The product has ceramides, but these will not be on your skin for long—you will wash the product away in a minute or so. The ceramides in this product will not provide any long-term benefit as they are not on the skin for long. Their role is to negate the drying effect the cleansing agents cause slightly.
As Hyphen’s marketing material says, this product will not moisturise your skin. It is a good cleanser, not a moisturiser. It has good supporting ingredients that will compensate for the dryness caused by cleansing agents.
How to use the product?
Cleanse your face with the product.
If some people find that a cleanser is not wiping away their makeup, they will wash their face with it again. Don’t do that. The second time might not necessarily remove the makeup. If it doesn’t work the first time, it won’t work for make-up the second time either. Instead, use a micellar water product to remove your makeup, and then wash your face with this cleanser.
So test it out once for your makeup, then decide if micellar water is needed the next time.
After cleansing, always pat dry your face gently. Don’t rub the towel too harshly.
Ingredient 1 – Aqua
Function: Solvent
It helps in dissolving other ingredients in the product.
Dissolved ingredients can spread better on the skin.
Ingredient 2 – Cocamidopropyl Betaine
Function: Cleansing agent
Mild surfactant (meaning not harsh on skin). It can remove dirt and oil from skin. Causes foam.
You will see some say that this ingredient can irritate. However, according to a 2012 review, it is impurities from the manufacturing process that may cause reactions, not the ingredient itself.
Ingredient 3 – Capryl Glucoside
Function: Cleansing agent
Mild surfactant. Can cause foam.
Ingredient 4 – Glycerin
Function: Humectant
Glycerin is a powerful humectant.
Humectants are water magnets. They attract water, like sponges. When applied to the skin’s surface, they draw water molecules from the atmosphere into the skin.
Ingredient 5 – Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate
Function: Cleansing agent
Mild cleanser. Causes foam.
Ingredient 6 – Avena Sativa Kernel Extract (oat)
Function: Anti-inflammatory
Has ingredients called avenanthramides which soothe and calm the skin. Colloidal oat meal is much more powerful in skin care than the kernel extract used here.
Ingredient 7 – Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate
Function: Cleansing agent
Mild cleanser.
Ingredient 8 – Sodium Polyglutamate Cross Polymer
Function: Humectant
Humectants are water magnets. They attract water, like sponges. When applied to the skin’s surface, they draw water molecules from the atmosphere into the skin. Because it is a cross ploymer, it is more efficient than normal sodium polyglutamate.
Ingredient 9 – Glycol Distearate
Function: Opacifier
It gives the product a white and glossy feel and a pearling effect.
Ingredient 10 – Ceramide 1
Function: Emollient
In a cleanser, they help reduce the water loss that can happen because of the cleaning agents. cleaning agents, however mild they, can cause some water loss in skin. This ingredient helps to reduce that a bit.
