Amlactin Daily Nourish Lotion with 12% Lactic Acid
Review
Daily Nourish Lotion with 12% Lactic Acid from AmLactin is a good product.
The primary ingredient of this product is ammonium lactate, a derivative of lactic acid. The ammonium lactate used here is equivalent to 12% lactic acid. AmLactin gives us ammonium lactate’s percentage in terms of lactic acid because lactic acid is more well-known in the skincare industry than ammonium lactate.
Lactic acid belongs to a class of skincare ingredients called Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). These gently exfoliate the skin.
But why do we need to exfoliate? Old cells must regularly fall off the skin’s surface to make way for younger cells from the deeper layers. But often, some of these old cells don’t fall off. They all cling to each other, making skin dull, flaky, itchy, and red. As a result, the skin loses hydration and is prone to pigmentation. Exfoliation is the process of getting rid of these old cells.
Lactic acid removes stubborn old cells clinging to each other on the skin’s surface. This product, though, uses a high concentration of lactic acid—12%. This 12% concentration helps it go one step further than just removing old cells clinging to each other.
Let me explain…
Some of these old cells block the openings of hair follicles, causing slight red bumps on the skin. These bumps look like goosebumps. 12% lactic acid can unblock the hair follicle openings and eliminate these old cells.
When red bumps become more numerous, they appear like a bumpy layer on the skin. This condition is called keratosis pilaris.
This product can help treat keratosis pilaris, usually in the neck, arms, legs, and bottom areas. People with dry skin and eczema are more prone to it.
This product is not just for keratosis pilaris—it can also help with rough, flaky, dry skin areas.
Apart from exfoliating, lactic acid also hydrates the skin and stimulates the production of ceramides. Ceramides are oils found in the skin that strengthen the skin’s barrier function. A strong barrier helps the skin stay hydrated and minimises other concerns like breakouts and pigmentation.
This product also has glycerin. Glycerin is effective in adding hydration to the skin.
The mineral oil in the product seals in the hydration other ingredients bring to the skin. This is important because otherwise, the hydration will evaporate.
This product is not for your face. It is only for the rest of your body.
This product, which contains 12% lactic acid, can also be used for maintenance. If you have rough bumps and flaky skin, use it daily (as per the directions in the packaging). If your skin is clear, this product can still be used, maybe not as frequently, but maybe 1 to 3 times a week. It will gently exfoliate and hydrate the skin.
If regular use of this product does not eliminate the rough patches, some old cells may have entered the skin’s pores. Lactic acid cannot get rid of these cells. Use a salicylic acid product once or twice a week. Salicylic acid will cleanse your pores and get rid of cells that are clogging them. Don’t use both products on the same day.
AmLactin has a similar product but with 15% lactic acid. If your rough bumps are more severe and you don’t have sensitive skin, use the 15% product.
The 15% product adds more hydration and strengthens the skin’s barrier more than this product. The 15% product is a better option unless you have sensitive skin.

Ingredient 1 – Water\Aqua\Eau
Function: Solvent
It helps in dissolving other ingredients in the product.
Dissolved ingredients can spread better on the skin.
Ingredient 2 – Ammonium Lactate
Function: Chemical exfoliant, Hydrating
This ingredient is a derivative of lactic acid. It exfoliates skin gently by getting rid of the old unwanted cells from the top layer of skin.
It also increases the hydration levels of the skin. Because it can retain hydration and exfoliate at the same time, this combination of benefits makes it good at exfoliating a thick layer of dead cells.
Ingredient 3 – Mineral Oil
Function: Occlusive
Extremely good at hydrating skin. It forms a thick layer on the skin and prevents hydration from evaporating from the skin’s surface.
Ingredient 4 – Glycerin
Function: Humectant
It is a water magnet. It pulls water molecules from the atmosphere to the top layer of the skin. This way, it hydrates the skin.
Ingredient 5 – Dimethicone
Function: Emollient, Texture enhancer
It adds a thin layer on top of the skin and thus reduces the evaporation of water from skin’s surface. This keeps the skin hydrated.
It also enhances the texture of the product. It gives the product a silky feel.
Ingredient 6 – Steareth-21
Function: Emulsifier
Keeps the oil-based and water-based ingredients in the product together – blends, unlike ingredients. Without emulsifiers, ingredients in the product will separate.
Ingredient 7 – Glyceryl Stearate SE
Function: Emulsifier
Keeps the oil-based and water-based ingredients in the product together – blends, unlike ingredients. Without emulsifiers, ingredients in the product will separate.
Ingredient 8 – Steareth-2
Function: Emulsifier
Keeps the oil-based and water-based ingredients in the product together – blends, unlike ingredients. Without emulsifiers, ingredients in the product will separate.
Ingredient 9 – Stearyl Alcohol
Function: Emollient
It forms a thin layer on the skin’s surface and reduces the loss of hydration from the skin into the atmosphere through evaporation, thus helping to keep the skin hydrated.
Ingredient 10 – Xanthan Gum
Function: Thickener
Binds all ingredients in the product together and thickens the product.
