Aromatics Elixir Body Smoother Review

There aren’t any good functional ingredients in this product.

It has some ingredients that will help the skin retain its moisture. But it can’t get any applause for that, because that’s the least we can expect a moisturiser to do.

The main purpose of this product is to give a nice aroma when applied to the skin. It has a bunch of different aroma ingredients. Some of these can give you a calming sensation, but in reality, they could be aggravating your skin.

Fragrance irritates the skin in the long run. Skin that is irritated tends to lose moisture, is prone to breakouts, and develops dark spots and uneven skin tone.

The product’s ingredients

Description of what the ingredients in Aromatics Elixir Body Smoother do
Ingredient 1 – Water (Aqua Purificata) Purified
Function: Solvent

A solvent helps in dissolving other ingredients in the product. Dissolved ingredients can spread and penetrate better. The water is purified, so it is free of toxins and pollutants.
Ingredient 2 – Tea-Stearate
Function: Emulsifier

It keeps the oil-based and water-based ingredients in the product together. Without it, the product’s ingredients will not mix. It binds all ingredients in the product together.
Ingredient 3 – Aromatics Perfume (Parfum)
Function: Fragrance

Adds fragrance.

This is a problem ingredient. Though it can give a nice sensation when we apply it, in the long run, it can irritate and aggravate the skin. Irritated skin in the long term, loses water and is prone to breakouts and dark spots.
Ingredient 4 – Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
Function: Emollient

Softens and smoothens the skin.
Ingredient 5 – Peg-4
Function: Humectant, Solvent

It pulls water molecules from the atmosphere to the top layer of the skin – and thus adds hydration to the skin (humectant).

A solvent helps in dissolving other ingredients in the product. Dissolved ingredients can spread and penetrate better.
Ingredient 6 – Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) Oil
Function: Fragrance

Adds fragrance.

It softens and smoothens the skin. It forms a thin layer on top of the skin, prevents water from the surface of the skin from evaporating into the atmosphere, and thus helps skin stay hydrated.
Ingredient 7 – Cetyl Alcohol
Function: Emollient, Thickener, Emulsifier

Emollients soften and smoothen the skin.

An emulsifier keeps the oil-based and water-based ingredients in the product together. Without it, the product’s ingredients will not mix. It binds all ingredients in the product together and thickens it.
Ingredient 8 – Tocopheryl Acetate
Function: Antioxidant, Stabiliser

This ingredient is an antioxidant. An antioxidant fights nasty particles on the skin called free radicals. Free radicals age the skin by damaging the good cells.

Tocopheryl Acetate also protects the formula of the product from degradation. So at the low amount it is being used here, it could be used mainly to protect the product from degradation.
Ingredient 9 – Ppg-26 Oleate
Function: Emollient

Softens the skin.
Ingredient 10 – Peg-100 Stearate
Function: Emulsifier

Keeps the oil-based and water-based ingredients of the product together (Emulsifier). Without emulsifiers, the ingredients of the product won’t mix with each other.
A quick note on other ingredients
These ingredients are all further down the ingredient list. So the amount used in the product is less. The amount of an ingredient used reduces as we go down the ingredient list. And most functional ingredients when used at lower rates, the effect they have won’t be the same as if they were used at higher rates.

It is important to remember that in the majority of skincare products when it comes to how much the ingredients help the skin, only the first 5 ingredients matter the most. After about the 7th ingredient, how much the ingredient can help the skin, reduces significantly.

Has dimethicone. Dimethicone adds a thin layer on top of the skin and helps the skin stay hydrated. It also enhances the texture of the product. It gives it a silky feel.
