Hydrating in Dry Climate
Snail mucin contains many hydrating ingredients, most of which are humectants, which are water magnets.
Humectants must bind themselves to water molecules like magnets to iron particles.
If there is water (humidity) in the atmosphere, it will grab onto it and bring that hydration to the skin.
But if you live in a dry climate, there might be little hydration in the atmosphere to grab onto. These humectants will then draw water from the deeper layers of the skin and hold onto the skin’s existing moisture. And that’s not good. It will end up leaving your skin drier than before.
If you notice your skin getting drier after snail mucin products, stop using them or follow the good practices mentioned below.
A Good Practice when using Humectants
A good practice to follow whenever you use any products rich in humectants is to layer it with a thicker cream. A thick cream goes on top of it. This way, the hydration that humectants have grabbed onto, be it from the atmosphere or deeper layers of skin, will not evaporate from the skin – but instead, the thick cream will seal it in.
